Tv Scheduling at it's worst!!

Ok time for a small rant against the morons who schedule sports programming at CBS. As most people should know, tomorrow is the Sunday of Memorial Day weekend, which of course is also a racing fan's Utopia. In most years the Formula One Monaco Grand Prix , the Indianapolis 500 , and the NASCAR Coca-Cola 600 are all staged on the same day (once in awhile the Formula One race may fall on the weekend before or after). These are quite possibly the three biggest racing events on the planet, add the Daytona 500 and the Allstate 400 at the Brickyard and you quite possibly have a good solid top 5. Some overseas fans will argue that other F1 races are bigger, but that's another blog for another time.

So on to the real meat of this subject. Most years the Formula One event is broadcast live on The Speed Channel at about 7:00 AM CDT. Well this year coverage will begin at 11:30 AM on CBS . Ok, Formula One will get their premier event brodcast on a national network. Normally this would kick total ass since F1 could use the exposure in the United States. One problem, Indianapolis 500 coverage begins at 11:00 AM CDT on ABC .

I mean really, what genius thought that this would be a good idea? Granted the Indy 500 is no longer a ratings blockbuster with the current state of open wheel racing in this country (again, another blog for another time), but still it's going to pull the casual fans away from Monaco. Of course the casual fan would never find it early in the morning on Speed Channel, but I think that CBS should have run Monaco just an hour earlier, then it would be over just in time for the green flag to drop at Indy.
